                                                                   History of WFI

The idea to establish an organization that would truly celebrate and unite the film world began over twelve years ago by a young producer/director, Antonio Gellini.  At 17, Antonio was a participant in the Berlin Film Festival.  Since then, he has taken part in and attended a multitude of international film festivalsfilm markets and entertainment industry events.  The dedication and passion Antonio has demonstrated over the years has clearly distinguished him in the international film community.

Antonio’s efforts caught the attention of the renowned television production company, Dick Clark Productions (dcp), in 1994.  Dick Clark joined in Antonio’s vision by agreeing to produce television awards shows for WFI, honoring the world’s entertainment community.

In 1995, Tichi Wilkersn Kassel, former owner, publisher and editor-in-chief fr the Hollywood Reporter and CEO of Hollywood Reporter Industries, publisher of over 70 magazines annually, became acquainted with Antonio at various international industry events and film festivals.  Tichi, too, became aware of his vision.

A generous patron of arts, Tichi over the years has promoted and recognized excellence in all areas of entertainment.  She founded Women in Film, the Holly Reporter Key Art Awards and the Marketing Concept Awards, all  which benefit the entertainment and motion picture industry around the world.

Discovering that they also shared similar interests and goals, Tichi agreed to assist Antonio in his lifelong quest.  Together, Antonio and Tichi established WFI as an official non-profit organization to recognize outstanding achievements of the motion pictures industry a continuation of Hollywood Reporter Industries Foundation which Tichi fist established in 1981.  She provided the broad-based support and expertise needed to develop such an important organization.  Today, Tichi is the World Film institute’s President Emeritus and Antonia, its Founder and President.
